[Past] Meet the Institute: Centering Community in the Economy

Every purchase has a social, economic, cultural, and environmental impact, whether intended or not. Social procurement is about using your purchasing to capture those impacts to achieve overarching institutional, governmental, or individual goals that helps shape inclusive, vibrant and healthy communities.
In this webinar presented in collaboration with Buy Social Canada‘s Niamh O’Sullivan, we will learn the why, what and how of social procurement and, with the help of storytelling, we’ll better understand why buying from local social enterprises can create positive ripple effects in our communities.

Niamh O’Sullivan
Manager of Social Enterprise and Networks, Buy Social Canada
Niamh believes that the way we do we business needs to change. Being more intentional about how and where you spend money can transform the livelihoods of many for the better. It brings Niamh joy to hear about the impact social enterprises create. However, there needs to be demand for the social enterprises services in order to advance their impact.
Niamh’s work is focused on building business relationships that generate social benefits to communities across the country. Her experience includes: facilitation, engagement, strengthening and connecting social enterprises within the ecosystem across Canada, supporting social purchasers to develop better ways of buying goods and services, implementing community benefit agreements, as well as establishing a culture of trust in partner relationships and social enterprises to achieve lasting impact.
Niamh would like to inspire others to find ways to do business better. Feel free to connect with Niamh if you want to talk about social enterprise or social procurement.
Niamh also sits on the Board of Directors of the Social Enterprise Council of Canada.
