Economic Nutrition is an innovation by Shorefast that makes local economic impact visible – showing where money goes when a purchase is made. Now, for the first time, the Shorefast Institute has piloted this groundbreaking model with businesses and organizations across the country. Designed to go beyond "buy local," Economic Nutrition offers tools, services, and a Certification Mark that helps organizations better demonstrate their contribution to local economies.

The Shorefast Institute is working with international finance leaders to shape our financial system to better tether capital closer to the places we live. Our work is shaping how we can see, understand, and invest in the value of local places.  Explore our latest collaborative resource partnership with Dark Matter Labs that establishes Fogo Island as a regenerative economic model that can be used as a blueprint for more places.  This innovative financing approach aims to establish new investment classes and standards to support local economies.

We can’t steward what we do not understand. A key lever identified during our 2021 Community Economies Pilot was the need for places to be able to both access and leverage local data. The Shorefast Institute is partnering with leaders in data and AI-enhanced technologies to develop economic visualization tools to map economic flows in local places for people to better understand their economy.
